Brain Based Therapy

Neuropsychotherapy is quite a mouthful, and might be more easily thought of as brain based therapy.  What does this mean?  Well, it’s taking current understandings about how the brain works, and how both illness and wellness are developed and maintained, and applying this to the practice of psychological therapy.

Did you know that:

  • You can continue to learn and adapt until the day you die because humans produce around 800 new neurones (brain cells) each day.
  • We have an enormously powerful structure in our brains called the hippocampus, that helps us to apply context, so we can understand that the bump in the night is just the cat and not an intruder.
  • Many fears are learned, just like habits, and can be “unlearned” in a similar way.
  • Our brains need sleep almost as much as they need oxygen, so getting good quality sleep is one of the most powerful interventions to improve brain functioning, and thus mental health.

I have trained extensively in neuropsychotherapy to be able to  help you to understand what you can do to change the unhelpful neural networks, or pathways, that you have developed.
